CNW
2007 CNW, Chenin Blanc, Wilson Vineyards, ClarksburgWine Enthusiast Magazine, October 1, 2009
88 Points
"Clarksburg might be called the Chenin Blanc capital of California, and this polished wine shows why. It’s completely dry and mouthwateringly crisp in acidity, with interesting flavors of citrus fruits, ripe fresh green beans, spices and vanilla. Try as an alternative to Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc." - S.H.

Fragrant lemongrass and lemon-lime flavors are light-bodied, crisp and refreshing, with fresh-cut grass and herb notes echoing on the finish. Drink now. 4,500 cases made. – MW

“Very dry, very acidic and very citrusy-flowery. Clarksburg has been making a reputation for Chenin for many years, and this wine confirms it, for it’s quite elegant and polished. The wine was barrel-fermented and aged nine months…tangy in citrus and wildflower flavors, and quite low in alcohol, just 13 percent. Really shows how well this Loire variety can do in the Delta AVA…”

"– What sold us: Indeed, Vinum Cellars Chenin Blanc is trying to knock California Chardonnay off its throne. Clarksburg, the home to Wilson Vineyards, is characterized by hot days, and nights cooled by the Sierra winds and bay breezes. Such a distinct climate is ideal for nurturing these low yielding old vines, and developing intensity in a typically cool climate grape. Aged for nine months in French oak, the CNW is balanced, yet lively, with notes of apples and pears, minerals, and a hint of mint and honey. Pair it with a spicy crab cake and mango sauce."– Where to find: The Wine House (San Francisco)

"Showcases a distinctive approach to Chenin that Clarksburg practically owns, which is to say, very dry...with a flavor of grapefruit zest and tamarind seed.. fills an important niche in California whites."

"Pretty orange blossom and peach aromas, with crisp, straightforward apricot, melon and juicy nectarine flavors."

"Exceptionally pure and clean expression of fruit, nicely framed by tart, mouth-watering acidity and balance that makes it a very good food wine."

"It's in the French style, with a strong stone-granite aroma with hints of apple, passion fruit and flowers a lemon-lime flavor and a mineral note that comes out on the medium-long finish. This food-friendly wine grows on you if you drink it in hot weather with a cool seafood salad."

VINUM CELLARS
2007 PETS, Petite Sirah
"Two labels stood out from the pack when the bags came off in our blind tasting, including the PETS bottling from Vinum. "Pets" is an old nickname of Petite Sirah, and the bold black- and red-lettered label states that a portion of the profits from the sale of this wine will be donated to a San Francisco SPCA animal-shelter fund."
